75 Years OS – NICC World Water Day Event, 22nd of March 2024, IHE Institute for Water Education,Delft

-

October 2024 will mark 75 years of Dutch development cooperation policy. In the run-up to this milestone, NICC organized a kick-off event on October 2, 2023. Additional events will be organized where students, young professionals and ‘experts’ will come together to convert the lessons from the past to the future. Several themes from the kick-off event will be explored in more detail in a session on March 22 (World Water Day). Although the Dutch experience with water is of prime importance here, the session should be relevant for development cooperation as a whole.

At the March 22 event, an overview will be provided of the past 75 years of OS using NICC’s WASH timeline. Subsequently, three controversial themes will be debated. Each of these themes will be first briefly introduced, followed by opposing pitches on the subject. After that participants will vote for either one of the opposing views, debate the theme, and vote again. The debate leader will see to it that young people on both sides of the debate will be given the floor.

NICC documents Dutch development cooperation (OS), as implemented over the years by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Historical developments and trends in a number of areas are documented in thematic and country timelines.
