De top van de ZCTU is ernstig gewond. Voorzitter Lovemore Matombo liep een gebroken arm op en kneuzingen over zijn hele lichaam. Algemeen secretaris Willington Chibebe liep verwondingen aan het hoofd op, 3 botbreuken en overal kneuzingen. De rest van de demonstranten kwam er evenmin heelhuids af.
Zimbabwe schendt erkende arbeidsnormen
De internationale vakbeweging is geschokt en gaat een klacht indienen bij de ILO, de Internationale Arbeidsorganisatie van de VN. Zimbabwe schendt internationale arbeidsnormen de het land eerder zelf erkend heeft. Het gaat om 2 fundamentele
ILO conventies
· nr 87 het recht om lid te zijn van een vakbond en het recht om een vakbond op te richten;
· nr 98 het recht van werknemers om zich te organiseren en om cao's af te sluiten;
Rechtszaak volgende week
Een aantal demonstraten is gearresteerd. 30 ZCTU activisten zijn aangeklaagd voor verstoring van de openbare orde. Op borgtocht zijn ze voorlopig vrij. Komende week, 3 oktober is het proces. Dus schrijf nu! Laat president Mugabe weten dat het geweld in zijn land niet onopgemerkt blijft.

CONCERNING
Trial of ZCTU leaders further to brutal repression of Protest marches on 12-13 September 2006
Your excellency, Mr. President,
I wish to protest in the strongest way against the brutal repression of the protest marches by members of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), on last 12-13 September.
Information has since been released confirming the severity of the injuries caused to the top leaders of the ZCTU. We are reliably informed that ZCTU President Lovemore Matombo has a broken arm and has bruising and swelling all over his body. Secretary General Wellington Chibebe has serious cuts to the head, three broken bones, and severe bruising and swelling all over his body. Doctors' reports for other ZCTU council members show that others have also sustained bone fractures, severe bruising and swelling, and cuts.
All these details will of course be included in the very serious complaint which the International Trade Union Movement, is currently preparing for submission to the International Labour Organisation (ILO), to illustrate the extent to which your government holds in contempt the internationally recognised labour standards it claims to uphold, namely ILO Convention 87 on Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise, and ILO Convention 98 on the Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining.
The 30 ZCTU activists arrested in Harare have all been charged with public order offences. They are due to go to trial on 3 October.
I demand all charges against the ZCTU activists to be dropped immediately and unconditionally. No further legal action is to be brought against them in connection with the 13 September protests.
