Malawi is one of the world’s most densely populated, yet least developed nations. HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria all pose a serious threat to the country’s primarily rural population. In a bid to fight these deadly diseases and simultaneously reduce reliance on foreign aid, researcher Victor Mwapasa teamed up with other Malawian and Dutch scientists to develop a research support centre that addressed some of the country’s health challenges from within.
