Omschrijving

PAX is the largest peace organisation in the Netherlands. For the past 75 years, we have been working with local partners in conflict areas worldwide to build inclusive peace, transform armed conflicts and protect civilians against violence of war. If you also believe that everyone has the right to a dignified life in a peaceful society, come work with us!

Gender is a strategic priority within PAX's interventions, leveraging the peace potential of diversity and gender equality, and aiming to take gender-transformative approaches where possible. To help further develop our strategy on gender, PAX is looking for new:

Policy Advisor
Gender, Peace and Security

(30 hours per week)

As Policy Advisor on Gender, Peace & Security (GPS) you will co-lead together with the current gender advisor and be part of a larger team working on strategy development and learning. Ideally our feminist work style is one of creativity and humour, working participatorily with sensitivity to link the different levels of gender knowledge and skills among our colleagues and partners.

What will you do?

You will work closely together with colleagues, activists and partners to integrate gender into the DNA of PAX and its partners, by providing advice and facilitating creative capacity strengthening and learning processes (incl. developing practical tools). With a focus on process design, you will co-develop a PAX gender strategy, contribute to the new PAX strategic frame and co-develop gender-transformative programming. Furthermore, you will initiate, develop and undertake political lobby and policy influencing and represent PAX in external platforms and networks.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an initiative-rich, creative and engaging gender heavyweight with demonstrable knowledge of and experience with gender in conflict transformation and peace building. Someone who is able to embody gender theory and translates this into tangible results, strategically, and programmatically. Someone who is keen to deepen our understanding and programming in interlinkages between masculinities and militarization, the role of women’s leadership in non-violent protest movements and strengthen the radical roots of the Feminist Foreign Policy agenda.

Ideally someone who holds:

  • At least 5 years of work experience in the field of gender in conflict transformation and peacebuilding (e.g., analysis, policy development/influencing, implementation, mainstreaming and advise);
  • Experience in international advocacy linked to gender, peace and security and active gender, peace and security networks at regional and international levels;
  • Tertiary education qualification in a relevant field such as Gender, Peace and Conflict Studies, International Relations, Politics or International Development;
  • Competencies: analytical skills, communication skills, thoroughness, self-reliance / independence, organizational awareness and collaboration / teamwork;
  • Capacity strengthening skills, including experience in developing and facilitating trainings, learning platforms, or other avenues for knowledge sharing and skills-exchange;
  • Demonstrable achievements integrating gender into organizational processes and programmes, for example by providing policy and thematic guidance to colleagues and partners;
  • Excellent proficiency in the English language (C2 level – advanced);
  • Based in either the Netherlands (Utrecht) or Belgium (Brussels), with eligibility to work in the EU;
  • Willingness to travel (self-managed, likely 2 to 3 trips a year);
  • Affinity with the work and mission of PAX.

Screening for integrity is part of the application process at PAX. PAX believes it is important to guarantee the reliability, professionalism and integrity of its organisation and employees. For this reason, PAX requests a Declaration of Conduct (VOG) or equivalent for new employees.

What do we offer?

  • An accessible workplace in a vibrant area in the heart of Utrecht, The Netherlands and/or Brussels, Belgium;
  • An interesting position in a dynamic, informal and internationally oriented work environment;
  • Start date as soon as possible;
  • Appointment for 30 hours per week (0,83 fte), initially for 12 months with prospects of extension;
  • Salary scale 10 according to the PKN employment conditions (depending on experience
    min. € 2.834,35 to max. € 4.739,91 gross per month for 36 hours per week);
  • 8% holiday-allowance and 8,3% end of year bonus;
