PAX is the largest international peace organization in the Netherlands. We work to protect civilians against acts of war, to end armed violence and build inclusive peace. We work in conflict areas worldwide, together with local partners and people who, just like us, believe that everyone has a right to a dignified life in a peaceful society.

Institutional Fundraiser
(Consultancy)
(32 hours per week)
PAX has a strong track record securing grants from governments and foundations in the Netherlands, Germany, the US, and beyond. Institutional fundraising is central to our strategy and remains our largest source of income. As part of our drive to increase and diversify funding, we are investing in a consultancy focused on building new partnerships and developing competitive grant proposals aligned with PAX’s priorities.
This assignment is suited for an experienced institutional fundraising consultant who thrives on opening new donor relationships and collaborating with programme teams to deliver high-quality proposals. We also welcome consultants with a project management background in peacebuilding or development who are adept at managing donor relations at a strategic level.
What will you do?
- Use your network to develop, maintain, and manage strong connections with institutional donors, including foundations, bilateral, and multilateral agencies;
- Lead and advise on efficient, successful proposal development for both long-term and project-based funding;
- Facilitate collaboration between program teams and management to strengthen donor relationships and ensure winning proposals;
- Contribute to the evolution of PAX’s institutional fundraising strategy and operational processes;
- Stay current on sector and donor trends, representing PAX at key events to expand and maintain relevant partnerships;
- Advise on donor compliance requirements during the application stage, review grant contracts, and negotiate terms as needed.
Who are we looking for?
- At least 5 years of proven success in developing, positioning, and winning complex funding proposals for institutional donors;
- Deep knowledge of, and active connections within, the EU, German, and other key European donor markets—particularly foundations and institutional funders;
- Demonstrated ability to work systematically and deliver high-quality results under pressure and tight deadlines;
- Skilled and culturally aware networker, able to engage and communicate confidently with stakeholders at all levels;
- Experience in peacebuilding or development work in (post)conflict settings is a strong asset, ideally within the non-profit or international sector;
- Excellent written and spoken English (required); Dutch is an advantage;
- Advanced university degree or equivalent expertise;
- Legally eligible to work in the EU.
What do we offer?
- A strategic consultancy assignment with an internationally respected peacebuilding organization and a collaborative team;
- Flexible work arrangements: work remotely with access to our Utrecht office as needed;
- Contract for 32 hours per week (0.89 FTE) until December 2025;
- Consultancy fee aligned with salary scale 10 PKN: EUR 2.519 to EUR 4.212 gross per month for 32 hours/week, depending on experience, plus VAT if applicable;
- Full reimbursement of commuting expenses (2nd class public transport) for any required in-person meetings.
