Climate Grant Coordinator

About the position

Working at Het Actiefonds as a Climate Grant Coordinator is a unique opportunity to become a member of a self-managed team of activists working on the empowerment of other activists. Within this role, you take the lead in the coordination of our new grant programme established to further support climate justice movements. You are responsible for the whole grant cycle, from inquiries and outreach to climate movements and the administration and processing of incoming applications to communication with donors, movements and the wider public.

Het Actiefonds is a non-hierarchical organization; you will become an equal member of the self-managed and self-steering team. This means that while you are responsible for your own tasks, you will also have to contribute to organizational processes and policies as part of the team.

Your responsibilities

• Programme Coordination: You will take the lead in coordinating the new programme for climate movements. This includes the development of forms and processes together with the Partnership Coordinator, setting up and monitoring a feasible planning, managing the budget together with the Finance Officer, setting up and planning different communication channels, and ensuring a smooth launch of the grant programme.
• Applications Coordination: Once the programme is launched, you will take the lead in processing all incoming applications. You will collect, review and process applications, ensure they go through proper decision-making processes, communicate further with applicants, and handle all administration that is involved in the grant-making. If needed, you will also assist in the coordination of volunteers that are part of the decision-making.
• Communication and outreach: As a Climate Grant Coordinator, you will also be responsible for proper outreach to climate movements to ensure a diverse and adequate stream of applications. Additionally, you will be the main point of contact for social movements, various climate movement networks and the wider public.
• Donor reporting: Within this role you will contribute to reporting to the donors of this specific stream of funding. This includes planning, overseeing and monitoring the allocated budget as well as (simple) financial budgeting and reporting. You will also be responsible for the development of regular narrative donor reports, together with the Partnership Coordinator.

What you bring

• You are based in the Netherlands, hold a working permit and are able and willing to work from our office in Amsterdam at least once a week

Knowledge and experience

• Good insight into and knowledge of the dynamics of the global climate justice movement
• A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in non-profit organizations and/or grassroot movements
• Experience in grant management or grant administration is preferred
• Experience in donor relationship management is preferred
• Experience in financial budgeting, budget monitoring and financial reporting is a plus
• Experience in programme development and coordination is a plus
• Preferably a background in ecology, climate justice, sustainability and just transition
• Affinity with or experience in a self-managing team is a plus

Skills and competences

• You recognize and believe in the crucial role that social movements play in social change
• You are an independent self-starter and have experience in setting up new initiatives by yourself
• You have an activist mindset and proven affinity with and knowledge of social movements
• You are fluent in English; other languages are a plus
