The CARE Climate Justice Center (CJC) is dedicated to advancing climate justice across the CARE Confederation, including with technical support to innovative and sustainable solutions, and seeking new financial models. The Carbon Finance Specialist – maternity cover will continue to support carbon finance engagements and development across CARE, building on CARE’s successful projects and partnerships in the carbon finance domain.
Role Specifications: Cabon Finance Technical Specialist - Maternity Cover (6 months)
The Carbon Finance Technical Specialist is CARE’s global technical advisor on Carbon Finance and is responsible for providing technical support to CARE members and Country Offices, to help them design and deliver projects focused on accessing carbon markets. The role includes providing advice, technical information, building capacity within CARE, ensuring quality assurance, knowledge management. The Carbon Working Group is the main internal coordination platform. The Carbon Finance technical specialist may also represent CARE externally in events, speaking engagements, donor meetings and investor meetings.
Lead technical advisory work
- Together with members of CARE’s Carbon Finance Working Group, develop user-friendly technical guidance for staff based on learning and on CARE’s carbon finance programme standards.
- Upon request, review and provide technical input to early concept notes, feasibility studies, carbon finance value propositions, business models and proposals in collaboration with CARE entities.
- Upon request, support monitoring and evaluation in collaboration with MEAL teams.
- Upon request, provide partnership assessments and due diligence reviews.
- Lead knowledge exchange and capacity building in CARE
- Facilitate knowledge management, sharing and learning within CARE and with like-minded NGOs on Carbon Finance.
- Co-lead the CARE International Carbon Working Group together with other CARE members/CJC Director.
- Support carbon program development at CARE International
- Support ongoing mapping of CARE’s country portfolio and scoping, with a view to identifying opportunities to scale up and/ or inform development of new carbon finance projects.
- Support development of carbon finance funding strategies of CARE members
- Partnership building and business development
- Support CARE members in identifying and developing new partnerships, supporting the alignment of these partners with CARE’s minimum standards and the development of equitable and viable commercial models and contracts for CARE
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Climate Finance, Sustainable Development, or related fields.
- Experience: Proven experience in carbon finance, project management, and partnership development. Familiarity with carbon accreditation processes and standards is essential. Nature based solutions experience is a plus.
- Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and training skills. Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and stakeholders globally.
- Attributes: Commitment to CARE’s mission and values, particularly in working with marginalized and vulnerable communities.
