Oxfam Novib is looking for a
Communications and Media Lead
At location Jerusalem with frequent travel to Gaza and Westbank,
Starting date as soon as possible
With a contract length of 1 year with potential for renewal
Lead, coordinate and manage all of Oxfam’s media and communication work related to the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel (OPTI).
SCOPE OF ROLE
The post holder reports to the Advocacy and Campaigns Manager and line or matrix manages the Communication & Media team. The post holder will coordinate the related tasks closely with the Advocacy and Campaigns Manager, and other relevant Oxfam staff.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Media & Communication:
Lead the design and implementation of Oxfam’s media and communications strategy for OPTI, in support of advocacy and programme objectives at national and global levels.
Provide media advice to Campaigns and Policy Manager, Country Director and the wider Oxfam on communication & media work underpinning advocacy efforts, and manage the sign off procedures;
Write press releases, statements, situation updates, stories and other media/communications material for public use; edit and advise on programme communications material; manage and develop Oxfam’s use of social media in OPTI; and coordinate sign off of all products in accordance with agreed procedures
Provide strategic advice to senior management and programme teams; and identify new media angles and opportunities.
Act as public spokesperson for Oxfam in OPTI; and manage media requests, relationships and contact databases.
Monitor results and impact of Oxfam’s media and communications work, and ensure effective information management.
Manage brand and potential brand risks.
Liaise with program staff and affiliates to ensure proper brand management, ensuring proposals and activities are in line with Oxfam’s brand guidelines.
Contingency planning & emergency response:
Manage Oxfam’s media response to humanitarian crises, working with other stakeholders
Contribute to Oxfam’s contingency planning from a media and communications perspective. In emergency peaks, coordinate the Oxfam media/comms response;
Lobbying & networking:
To degree possible, advise, liaise with and/or facilitate advice to a diverse network of Oxfam partner organisations in their media efforts.
Coordinate and collaborate with networks of other international and local agencies on developing and delivering media and communications work.
Strategic steer & coordination:
Take the lead in organizing and coordinating OPTI-related media and communications work across Oxfam affiliates;
Coordinate with the wider Oxfam coordination structure on Rights in Crisis, feeding in OPTI information to global and affiliate media and communications teams as needed;
Support the Advocacy and Campaigns Manager and others in building consensus among Oxfam affiliates on media work, and coordinating internal media sign-off process;
Contribute to Oxfam’s internal annual and/or quarterly planning and reporting.
To manage, and provide support, coordination and line or matrix management of the day-to-day work of media/communications staff in OPTI,
Eager and required to adhere to Oxfam’s principles and values as well as the promotion of gender justice and women’s rights.
Understanding of and commitment to adhere to equity, diversity, gender, child safety and staff health and wellbeing principles.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOB
You have at least five years of work experience in the field of media and communication in development and/or humanitarian advocacy.
You have broad knowledge of relevant thematic areas (human rights/protection, livelihoods, conflict sensitivity, gender, lobby and advocacy, among others).
You have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
You have demonstrated ability or experience in finding new creative angles and approaches for traditional and new media.
You are able to negotiate effectively among diverging viewpoints; understand political sensitivities of various parties in relation to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
You have obtained leadership skills and experience with coordinating various actors based in different places around the world.
You work well in a team and have outstanding diplomatic, social and intercultural skills.
You are a natural networker with substantial experience of building relationships.
You will be expected to regularly travel throughout Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza, including on overnight and longer trips.
You are fluent in written and spoken English; Arabic, Hebrew, and other languages is desirable.
Oxfam Novib is committed to providing you with a competitive, fair, and comprehensive pay and benefits package that is justifiable to our donors. This position is classified in scale 709. The gross salary range is between € 3.091,- and € 4.755,- on the basis of 40 hours per week.
