To support AFEW International and AFEW Network in securing and maintaining funding for specific projects as well as core funding.

Place within the Organisation: Reports to the Executive Director

Job Location: Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Hours of Work: 20 hours (part-time)


  • Identify, share and disseminate aligned donor funding calls and opportunities to support existing and planned programme activities and develop recommendations to AFEW International and AFEW Networkpartners in Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA)
  • Lead and coordinate the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to key donors (institutional, еrust / foundation and corporate)
  • Seek out new sources of funding potential linked to AFEW strategic priorities –  including private, corporate, foundation and institutional donors.
  • Responsible for the  proposal writing process and coordinate tasks and the communication with the proposal writing team, i.e. Directors and senior management of AFEW Network members, including developing necessary templates, research for content, writing, editing and peer review ahead of submission
  • Ensure that proposals meet the quality threshold and meet specific donor standards.
  • Contribute to overall funding strategy and priorities, organisational policy development and long-term strategy according to the annual plan
  • Attend regional and international events and conferences in order to meet with potential donors and partner organisations to establish and maintain contacts

  • University or higher vocational training
  • Advanced writing and editing skills
  • Understanding of international donor and funding landscape with some knowledge experience of funding and programming for HIV, health, human rights and key populations
  • Experience in designing donor concept and full proposal templates, writing clear, concise and compelling narrative articulating value-added and impact
  • Comprehensive understanding of the logical framework and theory of change approach to proposal writing
  • Strong financial and budgeting skills
  • Familiarity with key donor funding strategies and application processes and methodologies
  • Demonstrable success in securing large, multi-year grants from a range of donor sources
  • Affinity with working for a non-governmental organization
  • Understanding of HIV/AIDS, TB and viral hepatitis issues and affinity with / knowledge of the EECA region context
  • Fluent in English
  • To speak and understand Russian is an asset

  • Strong computer skills with a focus on all Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
