War Child Holland invests in a peaceful future for children affected by armed conflict. Our mission is to help war children to change the future. The Research and Development (R&D) department is responsible for developing and evaluating a care system of interventions within child protection, education and psychosocial domain. The department is also responsible for overseeing the development of quality standards, against which quality of care can be assessed in the future.
As Visual Communication and Design Intern R&D you will support the ongoing development and research work of the department through undertaking a variety of visual communication and design activities. For this reason, it is not applicable to conduct your own thesis research projects within the department. NB: this role is based in Amsterdam with no overseas travel.
The Visual Communication and Design Intern R&D you formally report to the Director of R&D and informally to the Communication and Advocacy Designer. The Intern will be supervised by members of the R&D department.
- Support scaling of interventions and disseminating research findings through creating of interesting visuals in the framework of War Child brand guidelines: graphics, illustrations or infographics in consultations with researchers
- Create visual communication resources in the framework of War Child brand guidelines for a variety of target audiences including: donors, inter-agencies, practitioners, governments and (local) organisations
- Conduct desk research, analysing research and translating research into visual communication
- General support activities for the ongoing communication work of the department.
- You are a student in design or visual communications
- You are enrolled in a Dutch higher education institute for the whole duration of the internship
- You have an interest in psychosocial wellbeing, education, mental health, child protection and/or sustainable development
- You have excellent skills in design, can make infographics or illustrations to disseminate our research and interventions
- You have an interest in creating materials for awareness raising
- You enjoy breaking down large pieces of information in a visual way
- You would like to analyse, structure and work with research data
- You have a good sense of priorities and time management
- Excellent command of English language, both spoken and written
- Available 3 or 4 days per week, starting between February and March 2022 for a period of up to 6 months.
- Students with lived experiences and connections to War Child’s programme countries, or settings affected by war and conflict are particularly encouraged to apply.

This internship is for a period of four months for 3 – 4 days per week, starting in mid February or March 2022 (flexible). As per War Child Intern Policy, fee will be €200 gross per month (based on 5 days). You must already be based in The Netherlands.
Please note that War Child interns need to be registered students at a Dutch educational institutions. This is a requirement by law. Students must be enrolled for the duration of their internship. Please note that this internship does not suit students who are in their thesis writing semesters.
