Experienced Fundraising Professional to maintain and strengthen the relationship of War Child with institutional donors and meet funding targets” 

Your Challenge 

The Programme Partnership and Grants (2PG) department contributes to War Child’s mission and ambitions set in the Global Strategy, by expanding War Child’s funding and partnership portfolio, providing expert  knowledge  and strengthening the capacity of the organisation in regards  to  programme  partnerships,  fundraising  and  donor  relations,  grant  management  and meeting  or exceeding internal & external minimum standards. The 2PG team consists of a range of donor, quality assurance, compliance, partnerships, bid management and proposal development specialists. The 2PG department has 4 teams: Foundations Account Management (FAM); Institutional Account Management (IAM); Quality Assurance (QA) and Partnerships & Programme Development (PPD).  

As Team Leader IAM (Institutional Account Manager) you are responsible for leading the Institutional Account Management team, composed of a number of Account Managers per donor group and Institutional Funding Officer. The main tasks of this team are maintaining and strengthening the relationship of War Child with these donors and related stakeholders, including networking organisations and other international agencies. Specific targets, numeric and content based, are set annually. Since Dutch Government is one of War Child’s key strategic partners, as Team Leader IAM you also manage this donor portfolio.  

Team Leader IAM is part of the Programme Partnership and Grants team and reports to the Manager of this department. Team Leader IAM collaborates closely with country offices/regions, 2PG+ team, Directors of global programmes and other relevant departments in the European countries/offices.  

The Team Leader IAM role is stationed in our Amsterdam office (successful candidate needs to be eligible to work in the Netherlands).  

Your responsibilities 

  • Continuously update institutional funding strategy, account and engagement plans for the Dutch Government portfolio  
  • Coordinate the implementation of the institutional donor funding strategies per donor account, the account and donor engagement plans 
  • Contribute to the alignment of these strategies with the country and global programme funding strategies and consolidation into the overall War Child Institutional Funding Strategy 
  • Lead and coordinate pro-active acquisition and sharing of institutional donor intelligence, networking and strategic engagement and positioning towards donors among the donor account managers as well as with other relevant departments and country offices 
  • Advise countries and regional hubs on country and regional funding strategies 
  • Provide expert advice and support internal capacity-building efforts regarding partnerships, business development, proposal development and submission, grant management, reporting and contracts 
  • Support country offices and global programmes in strengthening their relationship with relevant in-country donor and partner representatives 
  • Implement fundraising activities, monitor and report on their progress and results 
  • Streamline expert advice with regard to donor requirements 
  • Provide (donor compliance) quality and risk assessment advice to Manager 2PG on specific submissions and reports to donors in collaboration with the QA team 
  • Provide vision and strategic advice on partnerships and policy-influencing opportunities 
  • Contribute to positioning of War Child as an expert networked organization 
  • Coordinate developing and strengthening a network of contacts with (possible) partners and stakeholders contributing to the roll-out of War Child’s global strategy 
  • Actively participate in relevant internal and external working groups  
  • Represent War Child in relevant networks and external meetings with partners and stakeholders  

Your profile 

  • Academic background in Development/International Cooperation and/or Humanitarian Aid 

or equivalent.  

  • Min. 5 years of experience in a similar position in an international organisation 
  • Good knowledge of and experience in institutional fundraising for NGOs from institutional donors  
  • Experience in team management 
  • Experience in capacity strengthening and learning trajectories 
  • Good knowledge regarding current development and trends in the (international) aid sector 
  • Demonstrated expertise in institutional funding strategy development and its operationalisation 
  • Demonstrated donor account management expertise, especially with regard to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs 
  • Good knowledge of the Dutch Cooperation strategy and the Dutch Embassy network 
  • Knowledge and understanding of (institutional) donor networks 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English and preferably one of the following languages: French, Arabic and/or Spanish 
  • Good relation building skills, diplomatic skills and strong in building and maintaining networks 
  • Excellent facilitation and organisational skills 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines 
  • Excellent organizational skills and eye for detail 
  • Customer orientated, enthusiastic and creative 
  • (Cultural and Organisational) sensitivity 
  • Result-oriented and determination 
  • Available for 32-40 hours per week 
  • Willing and able to travel to War Child programming areas 
  • EU national or eligible to live and work in EU 

Our offer 

  • Salary range from €3,535 – €4,664 gross per month, based on 40 hours per week (the exact step determined by the years of your relevant working experience) 
  • 28 vacation days on full time basis (consisting of 26 vacation days plus 2 additional fixed free days, based on 40 hours work week)

  • Reimbursement of your train costs (if you travel to work by train) 
  • Laptop to work from any location and monthly mobile phone contribution of € 25.
