Free Press Unlimited wants to make and keep objective news and information available to everyone, especially to people in countries without or with limited (press) freedom. We do this by supporting local media professionals and journalists. Now, with immediate effect, we are looking for an interim Programme Coordinator / Grantmanager for our current (Year 2) EU funded Syria programme (38 hours a week).

You will be responsible for timely completion of financial and narrative reports to the EU on reporting of the programme and for a smooth implementation of the programme. You will be based in the office in Amsterdam.

Your regular tasks & responsibilities

  • Plan, monitor and coordinate the implementation of the programme according to the DoA;

  • Monitor and control the budget of the programme;

  • Steer on the basis of the budget and address project (related) staff about reporting on the depletion of the budget (both financial and in hours);

  • Prepare the narrative and financial project reports for the donor, and take care of the necessary (internal and external) information/documentation;

  • Evaluate the programme, with the programme lead and other (external and internal) stakeholders. Compile an evaluation report and, where relevant, carry out evaluation discussions with the donor;

  • Display within the established policy framework, operational leadership to internal (project officers) and external staff involved;

  • Steer tasks and/or composition of the project teams where necessary;

  • Responsible for the progress of the programme and compliance with EU guidelines, procedures and standards. Guard and safeguard the quality of the work;

  • Signal bottle necks in work processes. Deliver input for more efficient work processes and methods.

Your profile

  • Uni of Applied Science level of working and thinking;

  • At least 5 years experience in journalism, media and/or capacity building;

  • Work easily under pressure and able to manage tight deadlines;

  • Experience in working in transition countries and/or regions in conflict;

  • Proven experience in project management and relevant accepted methodologies; Experience in EU grant management is a must;

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;

  • High degree of organisational sensitivity and able to work well with people from different backgrounds;

  • High level of integrity and accountability;

  • Affinity with freedom of the press, freedom of expression is a must;

  • Responsible, flexible, adaptable and solution-oriented;

  • Good command of English. An additional language (Arabic) is preferred.

An exciting and challenging position in an international working environment. We are a group of 70 colleagues who work both from home and in a nice office in the heart of Amsterdam.

  • An employment contract for the duration of the programme until mid 2022. Renewal up to 12 months depending on continued funding;

  • 25 days of leave per year (on the bases of a full-time contract)

  • Possibility to work (partly) from home.

A freelance working relationship is one of the possibilities.
