Holiday Schools focus on children and youth in townships (slum areas) in South Africa and offer them activity based learning and fun during school holidays.
EMPOWERMENT AND OWNERSHIP
Holiday schools are about empowerment (capacity building) and ownership.
They are run by young volunteers who receive guidance and coaching from professionals: teachers, principals, community leaders.
Education and training (young volunteers as well as facilitators) are important to encourage empowerment and ownership.
Besides training in leadership, teamwork, professional development and health issues (HIV/Aids, first aid) volunteers (youngsters and facilitators) are also offered training in fundraising.
