Both ENDS is looking for several Project / Policy officers, focusing on the themes of Human Rights and Sustainable Land Use and Governance.
Together with environmental justice, women's rights and climate justice groups worldwide, Both ENDS works towards a sustainable, fair and inclusive world. We facilitate policy discussions between policy-makers and civil society organisations that face the consequences of these policies. This results in critical viewpoints on prevailing forms of environmental management and leads to sustainable and innovative practices and policies.
We are looking for multiple colleagues, so please read the following descriptions of the current vacancies and base your application on the project – policy that speaks to you most.
1 - Sustainable Land Use
The activities around Sustainable Land Use and Governance consist of building and maintaining relationships with partners in South-American and African countries and supporting their projects. The work focuses on sustainable land use practices & governance such as agroecology. In this position you will collaborate with partners on strategic decision making, case building and identify opportunities for systems change. You will further expand and facilitate our networks in these areas and know how to connect the needs of partners to possibilities for advocacy with the aim to have an effect on current policies. Since you are the link between partners and policy-oriented colleagues, it is critical to possess knowledge of (women) land rights, sustainable land use practices and/or palm oil issues in systemic change processes.
Travelling multiple times a year is required for this position. Because you will be working with partners abroad, your work hours may vary occasionally.
2 - Human Rights support and/or civil society collaboration expert
Both ENDS has an internal team (the Partner Group) that ensures that our work is in line with the agenda of the partner network(s) and that internal processes match partners needs. We are looking for someone to contribute to pursue two concrete tasks:
The development of a system of care
This system goes beyond addressing the safety of activists who are threatened or harassed, but also includes showing again and again how the current global economic system contributes to repression and threats to civil society that stand for their rights. We want to strengthen this work by building internal capacity, building capacity of partners, expanding our network and raising funds to jointly develop a structural response to these developments. We call this a 'system of care'.
Contribute to internal learning on equal relations with partners
We strive for equal relations with partner organisations and always aim to improve working relations to ensure that the voices from the Global South are represented in international debates. In recent years, the discussion on decolonisation and intersectionality as well as Shifting the Power has been increasingly debated in our sector. Both ENDS aims to strengthen its internal learning process to further explore how we can continue to improve our practices.
We invite you to apply if you recognize yourself in the below mentioned requirements. Please note that for both descriptions a Medior level is required.
Academic thinking- and working level.
Strong partner-minded focus: ability to understand the (political) context of partners, ability to maintain and deepen relationships with civil society organisations in primarily African and Latin American countries.
Demonstrable experience in working with civil society organisations, (women) environmental human rights defenders, social movements and/or activists around the world.
Relevant and demonstrable experience within the theme you are applying for.
Highly developed people and communication skills: diplomatic, empathetic, birds-eye view, good listener, able to create space for others.
Ability to identify (strategic) opportunities and pursuing them pro-actively.
Ability to work in accordance with an annual work plan, including budgeting.
Experience with project management and able to prioritise work accordingly.
Capacity to express and present yourself and the work professionally and convincingly both verbally and in writing in English and Spanish (at least B2) with an additional preference for Dutch (and for French) A2/B1+
You value personal development.
You are reflective and willing to actively contribute to the open feedback culture in our organisation.
