Our Organisation 

War Child, an international humanitarian organization and the specialist charity for children affected by war across 14 conflict-affected countries, established local partnerships in Moldova, Romania, Hungary, and Ukraine in 2022 to address the challenges faced by children and caregivers affected by the full-scale war in Ukraine. As of 2024, War Child’s operations shifted entirely to Ukraine with the focus on child protection (CP) and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in implementing evidence-based interventions for the well-being of children and caregivers. 

Your Challenge 

 

As Project Manager, you will be an in-country member of War Child Ukraine Response team providing excellent oversight of in-country project that aims to meet urgent needs of children and their caregivers in war-affected communities of Ukraine by focusing on addressing trauma, distress and child protection risks in community, kindergarten and school settings. Under the management of the Country Representative, the Project Manager will oversee the implementation of War Child Ukraine project(s) to ensure impact, quality program implementation and delivery. The role plays a key coordination role between project teams while managing donor-funded project(s) and working closely with local partners on implementing War Child’s evidence-based interventions & tools, and scaling. This role is critical to the sustainability of our funding and safeguarding as War Child Ukraine begins planning for the next strategic period.  

Your Responsibilities 

  • Provide direct program management by establishing key project management tools, systems and processes and effectively compile high-quality and impact-oriented narrative and financial progress reports. 
  • Lead grant management and monitoring in coordination with finance team, project implementing partners.  
  • Ensure the implementation of and compliance with the grant management policy. 
  • Ensure appropriate due diligence and risk management of the project, including risk management, financial management, safeguarding and duty of care. 
  • Oversee operational planning (budgets and activity planning) and coordinate project’s implementation, monitoring and close out.  
  • Liaise with the donor and stakeholders on all project-related correspondence, updates and reporting. 
  • Provide capacity building and technical assistance to project’s implementing partners. 
  • Assess project performance to identify areas for improvement(s). 
  • Act in accordance with War Child’s core values of creativity, inspiration, impact and integrity, while ensuring these are integrated into all project activities. 
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of institutional donor compliance requirements related to a project grant.  
  • With guidance and support from relevant Technical Advisor(s), ensure that program quality standards are being met by all implementing partners. 
  • Ensure compliance with applicable donor rules and regulations, and timely report any (potential) compliance breaches. 

Your Profile 

  • Skills and experience in project/program planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation. 
  • Skills in budget and grant management and donor reporting / accountability / compliance. 
  • Experience in capacity building of local partners. 
  • Demonstrated experience with developing and/or implementing projects/research in at least two of the following areas: Child Protection, Psychosocial Support, Education, Cash. 
  • Excellent organisational and coordination skills with the ability to build and sustain good working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. 
  • Ability to produce timely and high-quality project reports. 
  • Experience in financial management including sound budgeting skills. 
  • Cultural sensitivity, tact and diplomacy. 
  • Professional proficiency in English and Ukrainian language is essential.  

 

Important Note: This position is to be based in Ukraine with expected travel to the project’s sites (Dnipropetrovska, Donetska, Zaporizka, Mykolayivska and Kharkivska oblasts), subject to security considerations. 

 

The successful candidate must have the right to work in Ukraine. Please also note, this role is subject to funding.  

Our offer  

  • Local contract with salary and secondary labour conditions based on the in-country salary scale, local T&C's will apply. Initially the contract will be via a consultancy agreement through December 31, 2024 with the possibility of extension.  
  • The role is based on full-time working hours (40 hours per week).
