Internship – International Cooperation: valuing history for the future

Do you see the growing importance of international cooperation in these times of globalisation and climate change? Are you interested in international development cooperation and do you have an excellent proficiency in English and Dutch? Then the NICC Foundation is looking for you (www.stichtingnicc.nl).

Internship: at least 3 months (preferably longer in consultation). Working hours: at least 20 hours per week (in consultation). Start: from September 2024.

NICC Foundation:

NICC is the abbreviation of the Netherlands International Cooperation Collection. The NICC Foundation is committed to making experiences with international cooperation and sustainable development more transparent and insightful. NICC also wants to connect initiatives, link experience to new knowledge, and promote discussions. In this way, NICC wants to contribute to a more sustainable and connected global society.

What will you do:

One of the ways in which the NICC Foundation provides context to our collection is through timelines: https://en.stichtingnicc.nl/timelines. The timelines provide an overview of the changes that have taken place around a specific theme. The timelines are made up of interviews (oral histories), material from our collection and videos. As an intern, you will work together with theme experts on timelines, starting with country timelines (Bangladesh, Tanzania, Kenya) in the short term. These timelines are created by a motivated working group of experts who have mostly worked in these countries in the past and have many interesting stories and experiences. Together with them, you will work on expanding the timeline. Initially, in your internship you will also be responsible for adding texts, photos and videos into the software of the Canon of the Netherlands on the NICC-website. You will also help with the internal communication with the volunteers, the social media and organization of web-table-talks (webinars) and events.

Who are we looking for?

  • You have a passion for global sustanaible development in the past, present, and future
  • HBO/WO work and thinking level, direction: specifically: international development studies related to countries in the Global South, or more broadly: history, international relations, political sience etc.
  • You have a good command of the English and Dutch language
  • You are organized and creative
  • You have experience creating digital products.

What does the NICC Foundation offer you?

A fun internship at a young foundation with passionate volunteers. As a young foundation with limited financial resources, unfortunately the NICC Foundation cannot offer an internship allowance. However, this internship provides you with the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge in the field of international cooperation. Additionally, you can conduct research in the field of international cooperation with other countries in collaboration with experts who have worked or are still working in these countries. This makes the internship also a good fit for a thesis or disseration topic.
