Omschrijving

Are you curious to know how International Programmes are developed and implemented in order to protect conflict-affected children from violence and help them establish a positive outlook on the future? Are you interested in learning how quality programmes and research could result to increased resilience and improved psychosocial well-being of children affected by armed conflict and humanitarian emergencies? Are you keen to learn about how interdepartmental and external communication works? Then we are looking for you!

This internship will be part of the International Programme Department at War Child’s Office in Amsterdam and offers a great and inspiring opportunity to learn more about international programming, the humanitarian aid sector, and War Child’s mission to invest in a peaceful future for children affected by armed conflict.

You will have a supportive team to help you learn and gain skills in development and humanitarian programming, as you will significantly contribute to our mission for children.    

Responsibilities

You will support the team with a wide variety of tasks related to programme portfolio mapping, programme strategy implementation, and communications.

Tasks and Result Areas

  • Support in implementing the Programme Portfolio Review – including a mapping exercise of key projects in all countries of War Child.
  • Support in implementing & tracking progress of the International Program core team’s plan.
  • Support in preparation of organisational events, e.g.  International Leadership Team meetings, Annual Planning & Review, etc.
  • Support in documenting key information and maintaining the internal communication sites of the team.
  • Other administrative and support activities.

 Required Skills and Experience

  • You are enrolled in a Dutch higher education institute (HBO/university) for the duration of the internship.
  • You are in a graduate/Master programme student in a relevant field of study such as International Relations, International Development, Development Studies, or any social science research course.
  • EU national or eligible to work in EU.
  • Excellent command of English language, both spoken and written.
  • Excellent analytical, research and writing skills.
  • Good communication skills – able to articulate clear ideas
  • Good command of other languages (such as French, Arabic, Spanish) is a plus.
  • Good data management skills.
  • Demonstratable interest and/or knowledge of the development sector through prior work/volunteer/study experience is a plus.
  • Accurate, precise and eye for detail
  • Good sense of planning, priorities and time management.
  • Quick understanding of different computer software and filing systems.
  • Self-motivated independent worker with the ability to follow direction and effectively learn.
  • Great team working skills.

The Conditions

This internship is for a period of minimum 5 months for 4-5 days per week (24hrs/wk), ideally starting in April, a later date can be discussed. As per War Child Intern Policy, fee will be €200 gross per month (based on 5 days).

Please note that an intern at War Child needs to be a registered student at a Dutch educational institution.
