  • Responsible leadership skills centered around democracy and inclusion

  • Openness to take different perspectives and reflect on your own viewpoints

  • Tools to take action in your local context through your Action Project

  • Close connections and lifelong access to the Senior Fellow Network of Humanity in Action

Amsterdam Fellowship - June 17 to July 3, 2025

In 2025, our Amsterdam Fellowship will focus on history and activism as tools for navigating the present and shaping the future. Using Dutch history as an example, we will add a special focus on colonial history and its repercussions in today’s society.

As we observe rising inequities, the escalation of wars, and undemocratic practices across the world, our Fellowship urges its participants to come together as a community to challenge current systems of oppression. How can we shape history by creating a more socially just world? What are ways to decolonize the narratives in our history books? What can we learn from the past, in order to build a different future?

Action Projects

In the months after the in-person program, you work on an independent Action Project, promoting democratic values and inclusivity in your own community. By working on this project, you learn and gain experience in making social impact. You will be supported by the Humanity in Action office and a mentor program.

Senior Fellow Network

After participating in the Fellowship, you become part of the Senior Fellow Network of Humanity in Action. This network, consisting of over 300 alumni in the Netherlands and forms the heart of the
Humanity in Action community. Through networking activities, Senior Fellows provide each other with advice and expertise and remain engaged to contribute to a democratic and inclusive society.

Who can apply?

Students and recent grads, either living in the Netherlands or having a Dutch nationality, can join this hands-on program. Applications are open until March 30.

We look forward to your participation and making a positive impact together!
