What the work encompasses

We are looking for new (co-)secretaries to join us on the Colored Qollective board!

Our main working language is in English, while some of our external communications and partnerships are (exclusively) in Dutch. Your mandate is for four years starting from the month of selection.

As a board member

As a board member, you will also be part of the Core Team and work together with the board and the Core Team on strengthening Colored Qollective and pursuing our mission to build our community, spread care, and advocate for the rights of racialised queer people in Utrecht and beyond.

The board meets twice a month*, alternating between in-person and digital meetings. The board serves as a contact point internally with the Colored Qollective family, and externally with our partners – amongst which the Jong Gelijk alliance, ILGA, and the Utrecht municipality and its LGBTI advice committee.
*Alternating between Wednesdays online and Tuesdays in-person at 19.00-21.00.

As co-secretary

As co-secretary, you will work closely with the other co-secretary in managing our communications. You are thus one of the primary contact points for potential collaborators, visitors, and those seeking help, and serve as a liaison in guiding them to the right resources or persons. You are also one of the primary persons responsible for the internal organisation of the board and of the foundation.

__________

What your responsibilities and tasks are

In addition to the responsibilities and tasks below, board members may also take on the role of liaison and board coordinator of one of our teams or partnerships.

Board members also have the freedom and are encouraged to take initiative in proposing and then organising the planning of their own ideas, from events to collaborations.

As a board member

Amongst others, your key responsibilities and tasks, together with the board, include:

  • Deciding on, paving, and implementing the strategy and course of the foundation.
  • Overseeing the overall organisation of the foundation.
  • Planning, initiating, and overseeing collaborations and partnerships with externals partners, including projects, events, and long-term cooperation.
  • Regularly attending board meetings and updating the board of your work.
  • Writing project plans, (annual) reports, and policy plans.

As co-secretary

  • Managing the primary contact email of the foundation – checking all incoming emails, forwarding requests, invites or proposals to the right persons, and directing those with questions or seeking help to the right resources.
  • Overseeing the internal organisation of the board and of the foundation, such as meeting planning.
  • Overseeing reports and other outgoing outputs of the board.
  • Overseeing the calendar and incoming deadlines of the board.

__________

What we expect from you

  • Involvement in and/or affinity with LGBTQIA+ racialised communities.
  • Culturally sensitive, with an approach fundamentally rooted in principles of decoloniality, inclusivity, and intersectionality.
  • Familiarity with grassroots organisational structures.
  • Proactive and flexible working style.
  • Communicative and able to be assertive and critical whilst receptive and open to the feedback and thoughts of others.
  • Coordination skills and able to work closely in a team or with discussion and liaison with others, in particular with the other co-secretary in sharing and dividing responsibilities.
  • You write and speak English. Dutch is a plus, but is not needed.
  • Familiarity with (drafting or reviewing) plans, reports, and/or statutory documents is a plus.

__________

What we have to offer

  • A fun, young, and dynamic work environment and community for and by LGBTQIA+ racialised people.
  • The flexibility to carry out your creative ideas and vision whilst contributing to the development of a passionate and young foundation and community.
  • Board compensation* and reimbursement of (travel and other) expenses.
*Currently according to our volunteer compensation rate of €40 per month and €85 per meeting. A remuneration policy is being discussed.

Selection procedure

The selection team consists of the co-chairs Srish and Tuyet. Selected applicants will be invited to an interview based on their CV, motivation, and affinity with our objectives, vision and the expectations outlined above. The interviews are meant to get to know each other better, get to know your affinity with us and the Core Team, and to answer any questions you have. Depending on the number of applicants, the interviews will take place in mid-December or early January.
