Event: Five years Shelter City Utrecht

-

Five years ago, Shelter City Utrecht started as a concrete and accessible way to support human rights defenders in danger.

Through the programme human rights defenders are put at the centre, in the position they deserve given the fundamental role they play in the protection of human rights and the construction of fair and peaceful societies. They often risk their lives to stand up for what they believe in, holding states to account and pushing for human rights to be respected, protected and fulfilled.

During this event we will look back to the Shelter City programme and the human rights defenders who came to Utrecht. Also, we will screen a mini documentary about Caroline, a Kenyan LGBTQI+ activist who is leading an intersectional feminist movement that will enable womxn’s participation in decision-making and in social and economic engagement. Afterwards, you are able to ask Caroline all your questions in the following Q&A.

?????????
• Opening speech of co-mayor Linda Voortman
• Short documentary: guests of Shelter City Utrecht
• Interview with LGBTQI activist Caroline who will tell more about her human rights work in Kenya.
• Short documentary about Kenyan human rights defender Caroline
• Q&A
