MBDF was created with the objective to promote private sector development in developing countries through media instruments. Capacity building activities are integrated throughout its programmes. The Foundation works in close cooperation with (and for) organisations that assist entrepreneurs in emerging countries. The media for Business Development Foundation is responsible for the Africa Report project.
Africa Report promotes sustainable SME development across the African continent. Economic development alleviates poverty and stabilises a country. Weekly TV programmes that broadcast all over Africa, showcasing good practice and successful entrepreneurs, help to inspire and inform the African public about starting and growing inclusive businesses. This, by showing a wide African audience how other Africans have turned opportunities into successes and how applying emerging concepts of corporate social responsibility creates new opportunities for small enterprises. Exposure to successful entrepreneurs and businesses is a key instrument in triggering entrepreneurial people. The TV programs are combined with bi-weekly newsletters, an extensive website www.africareport.com and seminars in African countries.
Goals of Africa Report include:
- Informing the public on entrepreneurship
- Showcasing business opportunities to potential entrepreneurs thereby inspiring them follow suit
- Supplying information that assists African entrepreneurs to take the next step in developing their business
- Stimulating broadcasters to air programmes that address SME development
- Securing www.africareport.com as a leading portal for African SME development
The Media for Business Development Foundation is funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Development Cooperation, ICCO, Doen Foundation, Helvetas (Switzerland) and Heineken International.
